2nd grade curriculum recommendations??
Hi, my dd1 is in a parttime 1 st grade school/ homeschool program and I'm thinking of homeschooling full time next year. I want to know what good 2 nd grade curriculum is. I like easy, not teacher intensive, fun and effective! She's making all 100's now and we use Abeka, bob jones, Shirley English and Zaner Bloser writing.
I am really concerned with finding a good math curriculum the most. I have four kids 6 and under so we are very busy but I've been missing her so much when she's gone and feel I can do it just fine on my own now. Thanks for any advice!

Re: 2nd grade curriculum recommendations??
If things are working well with the curriculum she is using now, I would just keep going. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

We dread Shirley English and I know there has to be a better language curriculum for a 7 year old. She says she hates the science and history and those should be fun! They were her favorites last year. Math is just so stale, boring and not a good fit. It's a good idea for parttime school but I just don't like the curriculum.

Re: 2nd grade curriculum recommendations??
My oldest will be second grade next year. Here's what I'm planning.
Math: Beast Academy year 3 (She is accelerated a year in math. This year we're doing Singapore Math year 2. It's a very solid program.) Language Arts: First Language Lessons (grammar) Writing With Ease (writing) Cursive copywork All About Spelling (finish level 3, move on to 4 maybe) Reading certain books Science: RSO: Earth and Space (We did Life this year and my kids really loved it.) History: Story of the World 2 with Activity Guide (Another hit this year!) Fine Arts: Home Art Studio Gentle composer study

Re: 2nd grade curriculum recommendations??
My DD is a fidgety, hands-on style learner, so keep that in mind with the following. We are doing first grade work right now and I am working on plans for next year. Here's what it looks like for now:
Math: Math-U-See Beta Language Arts: Learning Language Arts through Literature, yellow book Reading fun books on our own as well I also like to do a read-aloud with oral narration and picture drawn by her to go with it Science: Apologia Zoology 3 (Land Animals) with journal History/Geography: I am strongly considering My Father's World Exploring Countries and Cultures with all my kids next year. (I'm struggling with the price for this!) Art: Adventures in Art Curriculum (got it free earlier this year and it looks awesome) Gym: She'll do this through our co-op along with some stuff as a family Music: She is on the kid worship team through our church Again, I may change some of this! I have no idea at this point if this is my final plan, but she is the one I am closest to finalizing right now.

Re: 2nd grade curriculum recommendations??
We are halfway through our 2nd grade year. We started with Math-U-See Beta and finished it in 2 months because it is a pretty easy program and my child loves math (loves math but was bored with that program). Now we're doing Singapore 2B and she's happy.
I believe a child needs a sprinkling of grammar at this age, not a ton. I'm using a Charlotte Mason inspired book called English for the Thoughtful Child that includes basic grammar, creative writing and simple composition. I think it's a very healthy foundation for writing. Of course, we also read plenty of good books. For spelling we are starting Sequential Spelling 1 now. Apologia is great for science. For history, see what she is interested in learning and get some interesting "living" books at her level.

Re: 2nd grade curriculum recommendations??
For the moms that use Apologia do you use the Jr notebook or regular? I was looking at using it next year with my 3rd grader
