My Mood:
Re: Went to the peds, I'm so irritated!!

It is hard to find, but there is some good unbiased info out there. Just plain old statistics which I find the most swaying. Just for the record you do not have to sign that form. In fact your pedi shouldn't even be pushing you to sign it. The insurance company does not require it because they can't. Though it may be true that they put pressure on her to have 100% vax compliance. The AAP gives out these forms on their website and suggest that dr's use them as a way to "open lines of communication with resistant parents" in other words try and coerce you into just going along with vaxing. Ped's are not required to have them signed. My ped has never even brought one up to me, and if he did i wouldn't sign it. IF it is the one put out by the AAP it essentially says that while you know these diseases are deadly and your Dr has informed you that vaxes are totally effective and safe you are being a negligent parent and going against your pedis advice and putting your child at risk unnecessarily.

Of course you can't go back now, but I thought it would be good to know for others who may face this same situation. OF course you could go to the DR and ask to have it removed from the file and given to you if you are really concerned about what it said. I just want to reiterate that the dr's aren't doing this to protect themselves, the AAP just reccomends that they do it to help parents realize what they are doing. And I did not sign for most of my ds1's vaxs, they just gave them. Some times they had me sign after the fact. I also didn't get any type of reference material as to the safety or efficacy of vaccines. Sometimes I got that little CDC printout, but it far from constitutes informed consent. If you would like links to some graphs that I found particullarly helpful in studying vaxes just pm me and I can get them for you.
