Yeah, if it looks irritated, put lanolin on it. It helps a ton.

I have one also. She is almost 6 and a very discriminatory thumb sucker. It must be her right, which is good that she is left handed. i would bet the dh is right and it will work itself out. DD never had a sore or a blister (no callous on her thumb) but in the winter it does get pretty raw and chapped, but she just keeps sucking away. I'm hoping Kindergarten helps her kick it.

Not really an issue for the kiddo. Just watch it to be sure it never gets infected
