MMR Vaccination Reaction - ??

DS (4) got his first MMR shot on Monday morning.

On Friday afternoon (yesterday), he started saying that his head hurt. Shortly after that, he got a temp. of about 101. All night he just laid on the floor, holding his head and saying how bad he hurt. Despite Ibuprofen, his temp is holding steady between 100-102. He threw up early this morning (about 4am) in his bed, and I'm thinking it could have been from the headache pain?

Does this sound like a reaction to the MMR?

Yes, fever and headache is a typical reaction.

Side effects of MMR listed on vaccine insert:

Hope he feels better soon.

Re: MMR Vaccination Reaction - ??

could be. my DS2 (who is now 16) got his MMR at his 1 yr check-up. 1 week later, on Christmas eve, he wouldn't stop screaming and the ped said, "it's prob a reaction from the shot, take him to the ER if he doesn't stop screaming". Christmas morning, we were in the ER with him. I don't rem if he had a fever, but he ended up WITH rubella from the shot. He was covered in spots head to toe. The interns didn't believe it was from the shot (Christmas day, they were the only ones there) and it took a call from my son's ped for them to believe and document it. to your son

I hope your ds feels better soon. It most likely is from the shot. My ds1 got a bad reaction to it as well when he was little.

Re: MMR Vaccination Reaction - ??

Did he get any other shots? Some are more likely than others to cause fever. It could be MMR. It could be another shot. It could simply be that he caught a virus at the pediatrician's office on Monday (given that it was 4 days later that he started feeling poorly). Or, it could be entirely unrelated to the doctor's visit and he might have picked up a virus at the grocery store or the park or whereever else he's been in the last week or so. I don't know where you are located, but it could be heat or allergies. There are so many possibilities.

I hope he feels better quickly.

No, the MMR was the only shot he got.

His fever was up to 104.7 - we just gave him a tepid (sp?) bath and some more Ibuprofen. Poor guys is miserable. We've talked to his doctor, and she said to call her back if he still has a headache with NO fever, or stiffness in his neck or a rash.

Re: MMR Vaccination Reaction - ??

DD had a reaction to the shot a week after she got it. She had temps around 104 for a few days. All I was told was to continue giving her tylenol. Hope your DS feels better soon.
