Kids wearing babies--is it safe?

My 8 year old wants to wear the 8m old so badly! She has asked to before and I have never let her because we don't have a carrier that would fit her (we only have SSCs right now, and they don't adjust small enough) and I thought it might be hard on her back anyway. DH did let her once though, and said it was fine. We are getting a MT in the mail today, which would 'fit' but it still seems like that might be too much weight for her to carry? Is it safe? Have you/would you let your kids babywear?

I let my 5 yr old carry my then 10 mo old in a woven wrap briefly. You have much more security with a wrap verses a ssc that doesn't fit well. Its fine if its very brief just make sure you are right there. The MT would be the best option for sure. You can make that very snug to give you piece of mind. With that said....yay for sissy wanting to love on your little

For short periods of time I don't see it would cause an issue. Depends on how responsible she is as well. My 12 year old is a cross between trigger and the Energizer rabbit. I don't trust him with anything potentially breakable. Far too bouncy with no real off button. Now my daughter on the other hand is on an even keel. Smooth sailing. Her I would say yes to.

I let my 8 year old daughter wear my lighter one of the twins around the house for short periods of time. Its a great way for siblings to bond. I have thought about letting her do it out of the house but we haven't done it yet.

I would think as long as shes able to support her comfortably ( not too heavy) and the carrier fit right then go for it(: id maybe try just around the house first till she gets used to it(:

I let my oldest wear my youngest for very short periods of time. He was 8 at the time.

My almost 10yo has worn both of his youngest sisters, now 2.5 and 1. He still wears the 1yo occasionally. He stops wearing them when their legs get long enough to interfere with his gait when walking, which was around a year with the older one, and who knows with this petite littlest one of mine. He really enjoys wearing them in stores, I'm sure because of all of the attention they get, and I enjoy shopping hands free! Ha. He does use a woven wrap, though - none of our buckles cinch small enough for him to be comfortable.

I think you have to decide if your individual child is responsible enough and strong enough to do it and then find a carrier or wrap that safely fits. Start out for short periods only at home to test it and see how it works. You don’t want to get them all strapped up and out in public to end in a melt down or accident.

I plan to let my 10 year old wear this next one, he's 5'1" and 190lbs though, so he's pretty much adult sized and I know his body can handle it.
