How did you switch from crib to toddler bed?

DD is very active, and is about to start climbing out of her PNP at daycare. She can get her leg to the top of the rails. She takes 30-60 minutes to fall asleep at nap time most days.

So, I am trying to start the transition to a toddler bed. She will NOT co-sleep with us, and just cries and tries to get away. She has slept alone in her crib from 3 months on. When we lie her on the toddler bed and lie down by her, she will stay for about 10 seconds and then runs around and screams if you try to snuggle her or contain her in the bed. I don't know what to do at this point.

What worked for you? Also, at what age did you transition?

Does she like to read?

My ds#1 loves reading so much.....
Our ds#1 went from part time co-sleeping, to his own bed when he was 2 1/2 years old.
Every night we would have our nighttime routine, then put him in bed with a ton of books....we said he could keep reading, but had to stay in bed.
He just read himself to sleep.
So, going to bed was a good thing and never fought it (until 3 1/2 years).
We eventually cut down the number of books once he could understand more.
Now, at age 4, we eat dinner, bathe/clean-up, daddy reads 5 books, potty, then he can have 6 books on his own in bed. We check on him while he's reading by himself and give lots of kisses.
On a good night, he turns out his lamp himself.

I would be the luckiest mom in the world if ds#2 will follow the same pattern.

Re: How did you switch from crib to toddler bed?

We spank. I am not angry, but I am firm. I also have the most obedient, loving children who are respectful and know the rules. I do not tolerate disobedienc, disrespect or an unloving attitude. My children learn from an early age to be obedient... immediately, completely and joyfully. My son has taken longer than the girls as he is very strong willed, but I was able to get him to stay in his bed when I put him there within a 24 hr period of his attempts to climb out.

That being said, only my oldest went into a toddler bed at age 4. She was there for two years. My kids are tiny. C2 went into her sisters bed at age 3 and DS is still in his crib.

I highly recommend...

"To Train Up a Child" by Michael and Debbie Pearl.
