Re: YAY or the VBAC forum!
My first DS was 9 lb, 14.5 inch head, posterior presentation, 2.5 hours of pushing, epidural at 7 cm that only worked on one side and then when they upped the dose my respiration was suppressed and I needed 2 shots of epinephrine to "wake up" again. At that point I told them to turn it OFF, but I still felt like pushing was the equivalent of "moving something with my mind" - I couldn't feel a thing. In the end, I tore "front to back" but delivered him successfully unassisted!
My second DS was a planned home birth. I had all my prenatal care with an amazing MW but couldn't shake the feeling that DS was breech, despite MW's assurance he was head down. At 37 weeks took myself in for a U/S at a 4D place and he was frank breech, head lodged under my ribcage. My MW worked with an OB and we went in for a version at 38 weeks, which was unsuccessful, excruciating and which almost resulted in an emergency C as DS' heart rate dropped 3 times. (Ironically, my OB nurse friend who pushed me to do this because she "had never seen it fail" also had a breech baby a few weeks behind my due date, also had a version and ended up with an emergency C as a result of the version) I also went to a chiro almost every day, laid on an ironing board off the couch, played Mozart by my crotch and put frozen peas on his head. Nothing worked. After an emotional couple weeks and hour long discussion with my OB and MW, I decided to do a scheduled C at 39 weeks 0 days. DS2 was 8 lbs 9 oz., but had he gone full-term I am sure he would have been 9 like his brother. Went off "without a hitch" you might say, but I was floored at how painful and difficult the recovery was compared with my first, what some might say was a traumatic vaginal birth. I requested a double-layer closure for a VBAC. DS2 is 3 next month. I'm due in late July with my first DD. We have since moved to a very small town, but I have a great VBAC-supportive doc. Hoping as a girl she'll be a bit smaller than my boys. Also trying (sort of) to not gain as much weight with this one - I'm 130 or so normally and 167 at end of both pregnancies. Dr said it might help by baby not be so big if I eat healthy, exercise and limit weight gain to 155. I'm 23.5 weeks now and 144, so not sure if that's going to happen or not. GL to all you ladies!

Re: YAY or the VBAC forum!
I had a c-section with my daughter in July. I was 6, almost 7cm at my prenatal appointment the day before, so my OB sent me to the hospital. I was put on pitocin and had my waters broken. As she descended, she turned sunny side up. I finally made it to 10cm and pushed for 1.5 hours before giving in to the section, I just couldn't push her past my pelvic bone. Had I switched up my position (they offered, but I was too tired to get off my back!
), things may have gone differently. I've already discussed, briefly, VBAC with my OB and he's all for it! Hopefully we will get pregnant soon and have the opportunity to give it a shot! |

Re: YAY or the VBAC forum!
Just seeing this post. Trying for a VBAC was never in my vocabulary. I planned a VBAC, that is what I would have and did 9 times.
