If you make spritz cookies, come in, please.

I grew up with spritz cookies at Christmas. That is all my mom made, as I remember. Our cookie press was her mother's and then hers and now it is mine. I made these uncountable, delicious batches of these cookies throughout my youth, and early adulthood.

My mother died five years ago and I have yet to make a batch that has worked since she died. Now, I am sure my mother had various botched batches throughout her lifetime, but I am feeling like over these cookies. To the point where this year, I sort of dreaded doing it. We made a batch this morning, and they were not bad-- the dough worked nicely, and baked fine, but they are not "right."

This is the recipe I am using (which was my mom's, and worked while she was alive )....

2 1/4 cup sifted flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla

usual method -- creaming and adding then press out of cookie press.

Can you share a failproof method for spritz cookies because I am really wanting to figure out what I am doing wrong.

Thanks, so much, mama. I will pm you. DH tasted them last night and he said they were great, but they just don't taste right to me.

I sent it. I hope this works for you. I have fond memories of my mom making these. I've tried to get her cookie press from my step father and he hasn't come through. It makes me sad. Good luck.

Thank you. If it helps any, my brother bought a cookie "gun" and he swears it is easier and works better than the old presses. I just don't want to give up the press.

I have an older recipe that also called for almond extract...do you think that might be the missing element?
