Re: my 9y/o dd just started her period!!!

I don't have any cloth mama pads, but I do have some good doublers...think that would work? I won't have any way to secure them in her suit, but you'd think it would be tight enought to hold it in....hmmmm I think we'll try that...

Re: my 9y/o dd just started her period!!!

I have been using tampons from the begining, and I used regular or super. That is all my mom had. I was at my Grandparents wehn I started and it was just me and my Grandpa, who couldn't talk because of a storke. SO I had to call my mom at work to find out what to do over the phone and then get grandpa to take me to the store so I could buy something. The original box of pads I bought still has some in it and it still at my Grandparents house over 10 years later. I used them for Breastpads a couple of years ago too.

Re: my 9y/o dd just started her period!!!

Maybe you could get her some of those little swim shorts that can go over her suit? Those are popular now. I saw a little girl at the pool the other day with a swim shirt (like a surfer wears) and shorts on and she looked really cute.
I was 11 when I started my period, nine when I needed a bra! My mom promtly gave me the belt and the LONG pads that they used to use pp, they were horrible. I felt like I had a diaper on. I wish my mom had been a little more prepared. I knew what it was because I had read the book, Are you there God, it's me Margaret, by Judy Blume; but other than that, no preparation at all. I hope I can get a cloth stash built up for my dd when the time comes.

Glad you did something special for her. Goodluck with the swimsuit issue!

I think that is a good idea, board shorts or something cute like that.

I read that book in the 6th grade, it was all the girls fave, it never sat in the library for more than a day.

I started mine when I was 12, 7th grade, on Halloween no less, talk about a curse. I am soooo not ready for that, my DD is 6, I hope it takes at least 6 yrs so I can be prepared.

mama,
I feel for you (my DS started walking w/11 mo. aswell) and for your DD! That's really very early.. It's only good to know that a) she knew about it all already from you talking with her about it and b) that her friend has it too, so she has something in common vs. being the first out of her group of friends, kwim?

Re: my 9y/o dd just started her period!!!

I started my period at 10 years and 2 weeks old.. my mother took me out to dinner and shopping. We had JUST discussed the matter for the first time about a week before I started!

I was always really regular and my mom was so great in helping me understand it and we had fun laughing in the pad/tampons isle at walmart.

Wow, that's early! I started one week past 11. It was definitely NOT celebrated in our house! I am dreading DD reaching this age. She is 5 1/2 now.

Re: my 9y/o dd just started her period!!!

Wow..that is early..my first 2 dd's started at age 15, both within a week or so of their 15th bday..and my third dd is 13, no signs yet. I was 12 but I think my neice started at around 9, she was developed very early as well..We did not do anything to celebrate but now I kinda wish we had!
