Americans living abroad... How did you do it?

Just curious...
If you are a U.S. citizen (or a former U.S. citizen), how/why did you move abroad?
Military? Job? Marriage? Just for fun?
Are you a dual citizen?
How long have you lived______? Do you like it?

We are currently living in Germany thanks to the US Air Force. We've been here for six months. I have a love/hate relationship with being here. It really is the chance of a lifetime and the most beautiful place I've ever seen but....it's not home. We will be here for 3 years. This is our second overseas tour. We were also in Okinawa, Japan for 4 years and I really didn't enjoy it. I wasn't meant to live on an island, that's for sure.

Do you live in town, amongst Germans, or on base? We lived in Germany when I was a kid (Army) and we had both types of living arrangements. We liked it better when we had German neighbors and lived in town...

We moved abroad because we love the people in the middle east. We are not dual citizens. We've lived in this country for a year and a half and in a neighboring country for a year. We love it

I live in Görlitz, Germany with my German husband. I am still a U.S. citizen. I like it but the town is smaller than Orlando, FL which I was used to.

My hubby is in the AF and we too are living in Germany right now. We've been here for a little over a year. To be really honest, I don't like. I can not wait to get back to the states. But as most Air Force families already know, home is where the AF sends you.

I lived abroad for 10 years, but relocated back to the US. I am a dual citizen of Israel and the US, as are my children. I went to Israel for my 2nd year of college, then decided to stay. We relocated back here for work.

Are you looking into moving aboard? Where?

I am just thinking about it. I lived in Germany as a child and I have always loved the idea of living abroad for a while. I know it is not as romantic as all this... but something about being an expat really appeals to me.
Having lived in and traveled to Germany, I would consider that but we have also talked about opening a bed and breakfast in Central or South America somewhere.

I am a US citizen living in Greece with my Greek husband...came here to visit my brother in the Navy and met my husband at a party (he is not affiliated with the US Navy, he's just Greek) We have 3 children and they are all US and Greek citizens

And I hate it here...I am from NY and it's just not the same
