Re: PSA: Please... Ship Smart. Save money, time, frustration!

OP- Here is my post from your other thread. Posting here as you requested .

Here is another very useful tip : If you want to use Regional Rate boxes for Paypal shipping, there is a way to do it even though Paypal is behind the times, and RR Priority Flat Rate boxes are not options on their drop-down menus.

To print postage for a RR "A" box, simply choose Service Type: Priority Mail, then choose Package Size: Package/Thick Envelope, enter the dimensions of whichever RR box you're using (can be found at usps.com so you don't have to measure it), then enter the weight as 2 LBS. The cost will be equal to the cost of a RR A box, shipped anywhere in the country (varies by location).

Follow the same exact steps to ship a RR "B" box, only enter the weight as 4 LBS.

Your printed postage is still for Priority Mail, and in the exact amount it should be for shipping RR FRBs at the 2lb for A and 4lb for B rates.

This is an easy way to still be able to use Paypal shipping when you want to ship using Regional Flat Rate Priority boxes. HTH!

ETA: One of these shipping threads by OP needs to be a sticky!

Do you have any thoughts about shipping to canada? I have a buyer that wants me to ship there. I found first class international rate for a small package for 5.75but customer forms? I feel lost lol.

You have to go into your local post office to ship internationally, unfortunately. You need to fill out the customs form and pay for postage there. Paypal doesn't let you ship first-class international.

I mentioned my trick of using eBay shipping to print international first-class labels upthread (or was it on the cross-posted thread in the Transactions forum)? This is a way to not have to go to the PO. You'll need to basically "cheat" by printing a second label for an existing eBay transaction and changing the destination name and address. This solution is not for everyone obviously.

Unless it's a low-value item or I have a relationship of trust with the buyer, I would insure any first-class international parcels. There is no option for tracking/delivery confirmation, and it's kind of nerve-wracking to wait until your international buyer tells you they got the package. As mentioned in the OP, insurance is cheap through Shipsurance.com, and you are covered in case of non-arrival.

What's this now?? There is a way to ship intl packages w/o going to the PO? What about the customs forms, etc? Please tell me exactly how this can be done! I get the using Ebay's shipping to ship another package part, but can you explain the rest in detail OP? Thanks!!

Well, there are a number of conditions that must be met for you to do this. I didn't want to unnecessarily complicate matters, but since you ask...

Obviously you need to be an eBay seller, and need to have at least one international transaction in your "Sold items" history (from the past month) to that same country. So this solution will probably only work for sellers who have a lot of international sales. You can select any previous international transaction to the same destination country, choose "print another label", and edit the address and of course the item description and weight. Voila. Ebay shipping will print the international label plus the correct customs form.

In other words, I can ship a first-class package to Canada, using eBay shipping, as long another Canada eBay transaction appears in my transaction history. I sell to Canada frequently on eBay, so I never have a problem finding a transaction to "clone" off.

Note that this action will generate another message to the eBay buyer that their item has been shipped. You may want to contact them and apologize for any eBay notices (I just say it was a mistake, and to ignore it). I don't do this often - only when I really cannot make it to the PO in a timely manner for an international buyer.

Very informative! Thank you so much!
