Is your late 20s to early 30s too old to have a child?

Due to some issues with our house and our financial situation, we have decided to wait until either this summer or fall to begin TTC. While I am not exactly satisfied with the reality of our situation, I do realize that this is the best decision for us right now.

The good news is that my husband tested negative on his Fragile X oral swab, so that's one less thing for us to worry about, I guess.

With all that said, I feel like my dream of being a young mom is slowing dying. While none of my doctors think I will have much trouble getting pregnant, I'm scared that will suddenly change once we start TTC.

Do any of you still consider being a first time mom in your late 20s to early 30s to be old? Any stories you would like to share with me that will give me some hope?

I had my first at 28; and just had my second 2 months ago at 32. I don't think that is too old, or even considered old by others.

I had my first at 33 and second at 34 and would not hesitate to have another one even though I am now 36. Go for it!

I forgot to add that I will be at least 26 and my husband will be at least 34 by the time we start to TTC. I have already asked my doctors if our 8-year age difference is going to have any effect on our fertility, and they don't seem to think so. So that's one thing going for us.

I just want things to get better for us so we can finally start chasing our dream of having a family, and I desperately want to get pregnant while I can. :sigh:

Re: Is your late 20s to early 30s too old to have a child?

Late 20's is becoming more the norm for having a first child. More people are waiting to start a family for so many reasons. Finishing college, getting job/financial security, etc. I just did a quick google search and avg age for having a first child in the 70's was 21, in 2013 it was 26.
I was 24 when our first was born and I thought that was young. Still do as I'm one of the younger moms when doing things with my oldest at school and sporting events.
I'm not sure why you think 26 is old. Most of the people i'm around started families in their mid-late 20's or early 30's. Totally normal among young professionals.

26 is mid 20's and late 20's early 30's seem to be a prime time to have children for many people. I'm 30 and have 4 kiddos but I would absolutely have more kids at this age. I was 28 (almost 29) when our youngest was born.

Re: Is your late 20s to early 30s too old to have a child?

I had my first at 29, second at 30, and third at 33. Trying for number four and would have that one at 35. It's different in different places. Where I'm at - I was one of the youngest to start having a family. My 2 closest friends don't have any kids yet and they are 34 and 35. They just started trying. Unless you want to have a really big family (like more than 7 or 8), you are totally fine. It's just hard to wait when you really want it!
