hard times stalling labor... sigh

Last Tuesday (the 17th), we had to bring my 3rd child (11) to the ER for Status Epilepticus. (seizures that are not stopping). It was so bad they had to drug her nearly to the point of non-function. It has been quite a trial being so pregnant and having to deal with this. We are hoping she comes home Friday, but not sure since she is unable to walk, talk more than a couple mumbled words and cannot even sit up. And I will not be able to care for her being due any day now. (I normally deliver early). It has been hard to see her so changed.

We are looking at 2 diagnoses: Lennox-gastaut Syndrome and/or Hashimoto's Encephalopathy.

I'm pretty sure I started labor last Friday because I was in the bathroom with diarrhea and contractions. Until I heard her start a night of grand mal seizures and the nurses were not there to make sure she was ok. (this ended her up in the intensive care unit for the weekend.) Ugh! Labor stopped quick for me! Since then, I've had nights of major contractions only to have them slow quite a bit during the day.

Yesterday, my OB checked me and found I was 70% effaced and around 4 cm. I am in my 37th week. I decided to stay home for the first time in over a week last night to sleep in my bed and get rest only to have the contractions stop again. UGH. I'm getting soooo frustrated and TIRED. We were planning a home birth, but I cannot settle down enough to even think about birthing, esp with our family so separated with hubby being at the hospital with our daughter. I visited them today and immediately felt at peace and lay down to take a nap on the couch. After about an hour, my girlfriend who's staying with me and hubby decided I needed to be home to birth and I CRIED! GAH! It takes a lot for me to cry. Now I am at home, depressed and afraid that if I cannot shake this, then the labor and birth will be so much worse or stalled longer and the baby will be too big. (My early babies are big for gestational age)

I feel like a mama cat that cannot find a good place to get comfy and give birth because life is in such an upheaval right now! so I guess, I just needed a place to vent. Hopefully I will be able to settle down after a shower and I get some rest.

So sorry mama to hear about your hardship. I can understand you feeling unsettled. My advice would be to trust your mommy instincts. If you feel best & more relaxed by your dd's side, then that's where you need to be. In the grand scheme of things, how much does it matter to you if your baby is born at home or elsewhere? Even if you deliver at a hospital or in the car for that matter, the goal is healthy baby & healthy mommy. Besides, baby will come when he or she is ready, but I understand it's hard to balance everything that is going on right now. Big hugs!!!

Mama, hug hug hug hug hug.
Do what your heart says you need to do, not what your family says they want you to do. You are the one that has to live with yourself, not anyone else.
I am so so so sorry for the hassles in your life, and I really hope things lighten up for you very soon. Thinking of you! xo

Wow momma I'm sorry you are dealing with such difficult times. Has your lo always suffered from seizures or is this a new thing? How scary.

I pray the LORD will give you peace in this storm and help you to relax and birth this baby while being their for your daughter.

You are SO right that birth is such an emotional thing. I hope you can find peace somewhere. And if you want to be by your daughter's side, then do that. It is NO ONE's choice but your own!

Yes, if you feel peace at the hossy, then that is a major sign that you need to be there, don't you think? I am so sorry for your situation, though, that must be so hard. Hang in there!!!
