What is the HCG Diet?

Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, a specialist on obesity and weight regulation, introduced a program that has helped many people overcome weight loss resistance. The program utilizes a natural hormone that is produced during pregnancy called Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG). Dr. Simeons’ theory is that HCG causes the hypothalamus area of the brain to trigger a release of abnormal fat stores. When administered in relatively small doses and coupled with a very low calorie diet, people routinely lose 20 pounds in 30 days. HCG has helped thousands of people lose those stubborn pounds. In addition to weight loss, many patients who have completed the HCG program also experienced many other health benefits, including a drop in cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar.

How does HCG help me lose weight?

HCG appears to act on the hypothalamus, signaling the body to release stored fat into the bloodstream where it is then available to be used by the cells for nourishment. This alone will not cause weight loss, though, unless you reduce your food intake. This forces the body to use the mobilized fat from the bloodstream. HCG causes the release of abnormal fat without affecting structural fat and muscle tissue. Which means you lose in those stubborn areas--hips, thighs, buttocks and upper arms!

Do I have to follow a special diet while I take the HCG drops?

Yes. You must follow the entire HCG Diet Protocol as described in Dr. Simeons' manuscript, "Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity", where he outlines a special 500-calorie-per-day diet that was tested on thousands of patients. HCG is only effective for weight loss if it is taken while strictly following Dr. Simeons' HCG Diet Protocol, including the 500 calorie diet. Taking HCG alone (without the diet) will not cause you to lose weight. HCG takes effect when you reduce your food intake so that the mobilized fat will be used for your body's energy needs. If you fail to follow the diet you will fail to lose weight. If you only follow the diet without taking HCG, you are simply starving yourself because there is no fat in the bloodstream to burn. Simply put, both are required.

**************************************************
NOTE: THE HCG PROTOCOL MUST BE FOLLOWED EXACTLY, AND MANY OF THE RECIPES LISTED HERE AND ELSEWHERE ONLINE AS "HCG Diet Recipes" DO NOT FOLLOW THE PROTOCOL, OR ARE NOT INTENDED FOR PHASE 2, WHICH IS THE ACTUAL HCG + DIET PHASE. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO READ THE ORIGINAL PROTOCOL AND FOLLOW IT PRECISELY FOR OPTIMAL RESULTS.

Trying a vegetarian version this time with jay Robb's egg white protein shakes and idk what else! My cholesterol jumped quite a bit before and I think I just don't tolerate that much meat well.

Kaleidoscope eyes - you are an inspiration!!

I'm starting P2 tomorrow, last day of loading. Doing a shortish round of p2 until June 15th. Eating at work is the hardest. I work such long days, anyone have any food tips?

I've done hcg before, every time I think I'm going to get so bored with food. Usually just do baked chicken and broccoli. Bleh. It works. What does everyone else eat on the regular?

Re: May hcg

Some things that worked for me last time:

While i was loading i would buy meat in bulk and weigh it all out. For ground beef and chicken I would weigh out 30 portions, and cook them all just plain. I'd freeze all except 3 days at a time and try to keep 2-3 days in the fridge. This way I didn't have to spend a lot of time in the kitchen during vlcds. It also kept things automated for me.

When it was meal time (or meal packing time) I would spice it up however I wanted (taco, italian, lemon/pepper) based on the veg I was having. I liked to fill up celery sticks with ground beef, pour a can of crushed tomatoes over ground beef, or do lettuce wraps. For chicken I made cucumber or tomato sandwiches, and lettuce wraps.

I always kept a bottle of water (one of those with the filter in it). If I felt hunger I would first chug a good 8-10 oz of water first.

I liked to make a pot of tea in the morning and have a cup hot with an apple. The rest I would put in the fridge and drink throughout the day. Sometimes I would mix it with seltzer water.

This time I am focusing on fluids again. I have cup of almond milk with a scoop of protein powder around 3. If I'm hungry before that I do an apple or some celery or a sliced tomato.
I always have berries for dessert right before bed.

VLCD Day 1. Not so hungry as I am bored. Haha. Working tomorrow will really stink since I always go out to lunch. Oh well. Can't wait to see the scale move DOWN.

Were you stalling? I find just doing eggs I achieve the biggest losses.
