Ok, Mama's I need advice

My DS is 2 today, a bit thin (3 percentile) and refuses milk from anything but a bottle, hates sippy cups. How much do I fight this? and when do I just toss the bottles and say tough?

I say dont fight it if you think he's under wieght. Just offer a cup first and move to a bottle if he refuses. I promise he wont go to kindergarten with a bottle in his mouth.

I agree with PP. I don't think it's worth the fight.

Have you tried just giving him a regular cup?

Also, is he underweight or is he just petite? My daughter at 2 was in the 3rd percentile for weight, but she wasn't underweight, was just petite.

I would probably go without the bottle for a week and see how it goes.

well, if he likes his bottle its not the end of the worls IMO. I had one child off the charts tiny (my other are quite round). Cows milk isnt really good for them anyway. Try kefir or yogurt mixed with juice. Try it in a regular cup not a sippy and see what happens. Or in a straw cup.

Not worth it, IMO. My DS didn't go from bottle to sippy until right before he turned 2. (And that was only after I tried a million different ones.) We're still in a similar situation with spoons though - DS is 29 months and still can't use one. BUT, he's FTT (and way, way under the charts) so its more important to get the food in him rather than worry about the motor skill.

That being said, don't let him have more than 16-24 oz of milk a day (any more and you're replacing real food with milk, which can contribute to his low weight) and don't let him walk around with the bottle all day. When my DS has his milk (or Pediasure, rather), he drinks it up all at once and then that's it until the next meal. He only gets water to drink throughout the day.

Re: Ok, Mama's I need advice

My daughter would never drink milk from anything but a bottle. I got rid of her bottle at a little over a year and she has never liked milk since. Her dr. never thought it was a big deal and that she didn't HAVE to have milk. However, having a bottle for a while is no big deal (my first had his till about 2 1/2). I'd keep trying the sippy, but if you feel better giving him a bottle of milk than do it! My DN will only use straw cups. There are other ways to fatten up your baby without milk.

advice appricated, we do limit his milk intake, he's tall (75th percenntile) but thin, he has a soy allergy so pediasure is out
