Re: Five year old hates to be told she is beautiful?

Chirpy I tend to take kids seriously. So I believe she genuinely doesn't like it. I too am curious where this is steming from. Maybe consider lightly over time to just remind her of your and His love. And that she and all of creation is beautiful. Hugs to you as you walk through this journey. I trust you'll find exactly what she needs to mother her through this.

DH and I have both been extra loving to her since this came up. We all sat down (other kids also) and talked with her about being shy and she was smiling at the end of the conversation. She opened up more and talked more to us last night than she ever has. She is close to her siblings and I think it helped to include them in the convo.

I now believe (and DH agrees) that she is just experiencing some intense shyness and this is how it's coming out. I was careful to let her choose her own church clothes this morning (that has been a major battle lately) and bit my tongue and did NOT tell her how very pretty she is. She went happily to church and we have had a great day.

That's a great update Chirpy!!!

I don't know how I missed this thread before. I think some children have a modest heart. Not that others have an immodest heart but modest ones prefer to blend in and not be singled out. It's difficult for them when they get attention.

My parents were the type that made sure I knew I wasn't that cute so I didn't get a big head.
