do you have a baby that won't rock/snuggle?

Help! I have a nine month old who WILL NOT let me rock her before nap/bed. She won't relax and snuggle just wiggles around and fusses/cries. My older daughter loved to be rocked and I hate having this baby fuss herself to sleep. Does anyone else have a baby that has to do this to get to sleep?

My now 2 1/2 year old has hated being rocked since day 1. She has always put her self to sleep.

My ODD was like this from day 1...sometimes she fussed a little but she would scream if we tried to pick her up and "help her' to sleep. To this day she is the easiest of all the kids to get to bed...the others like to snuggle or rock to sleep. ODDs idea of snuggling is laying on the other side of her queen sized bed with her..."but not too close mommy" She's just independent

my DS hasn't wanted to cuddle since he was about 4 months old. too active. of course when he's sleepy or hurting he'll snuggle with his mama

Re: do you have a baby that won't rock/snuggle?

My daughter was never rocked and still is very independent in everything she does at 18 months. We tried to avoid CIO with her for bedtimes but even adding a bedtime routine, nursing, patting her back or doing anything "soothing" just dragged on the night time routine even longer. CIO worked for us within three days and she is a great sleeper and napper. Some kids just need to do it on their own. She rarely has any fussing when it is time to go to bed or nap. Just remember that each child is different. Just because someone may suggest that there HAS to be another way besides letting them fuss for a bit doesn't mean there is another way for your child. Again, for my dd, she would cry longer and louder should we try the things that would normally be soothing for most other kids.

WOW!! Can you read my mind? I was just thinking of posting something about this too. dd3 is like this. She refuses to let me rock her to sleep..she is 6 months old. The only way she goes to sleep is by putting her in her crib. Sometimes she fusses for a few minutes, but most of the time I don't hear her peep. I'm not complaining, but I do miss that snuggle time.
My other 2 were like this at some point in time, especially once they could get around on their own. If they ever let me rock them to sleep it was because they were sick. Now that they are 2 and 3 they LOVE for me to rock them. So I would say it could be a stage or maybe your lo is just independent.

nope! only ever a bit of fussing and if he started crying I went into him. Usually that's if he is overtired though, generally just snuggles up with his blankie and pacifier and goes to sleep.
