Re: Water for BLW 8-mo old

I would try a sippy cup for sure. My daughter likes the nuby ones and also loved any cups that had a hard straw!

Try a sippy cup or even see if she will drink from a straw cup. Mine went straight to a straw cup.

Google "doidy cup"--a sippy cup isn't really any different than a bottle. The Doidy Cup has an open mouth that's designed to teach babies how to drink rather than suck, if that makes sense. Recommended for 3 months and up. Camo Cup is another brand with a similar design, but not as widely available in the US.

we started with the end of a straw putting water in his mouth and got him pouches with prunes. that taught him how to suck and then we went to a playtex learning straw cup which you can squeeze to help them start drinking...we loved it. hes never had a true sippy just something with a straw or a tervis and open cups at the table.

We used a Doidy cup from six months and it was great! She started on a straw closer to a year.

Water for BLW 8-mo old

Definitely try a sippy cup. When my LO got a bit constipated starting solids, I diluted a bit of prune juice with water and gave it to her in a sippy cup. She loved it. Also, pears help with constipation.

My LO also loves it when I give her water through a straw - you know how you can hold one end closed with your finger and hold water in it? Then you just "feed" it to them. Hope that makes sense. We often do that to entertain her at restaurants :-)

Are you nursing before meals or after? At 8 months, breastmilk should still be the main source of nutrition, so be sure to nurse before meals. That might help with baby drinking more liquids, too. Water is fine, but it isn't really necessary if you're breastfeeding.
