Best time?

When is the best time to start introducing solids? My son is almost 3 months old and i have given tiny little bites of foods like soup and such just for him to try. He knows exactly what to do already and doesnt get choked. I think I want to wait a couple more months I just thought i would let him try to see how he does and his reactions. When do you think is the best time to start feeding solids?

I believe the American academy of pediatrics suggests nothing until 6 months.

Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum (and autocorrect hates me)

close to 6 mo. I think 3 mo is WAY to early. Look up 'open gut" in babies

Re: Best time?

Ahhh! Thinking of what could get through to a baby when they have an open gut makes me wonder why my doctor said 4-7 months to start solids. I have yet to start and am leaning more toward starting on the later end of that scale.

Re: Best time?

We did not start till about 7.5 months... and then it was really, really small. I would really look into the affects of feeding food to early.

Re: Best time?

Like others said, wait until 6 months. My son is over 6 months and I"m thinking of waiting until cold and flu season is over so later winter, around 9 months. Food before 1 is just for fun.

I liked the advice from la leche league - when they can sit on your lap, pick up a piece of food from your plate, and get it into their mouth.
Check out "baby-led weaning"
