It happened again!! TrueFit tether clip

The tether clip on my DS' true fit bent a while back, so that the clasp would not close all the way. I called the company. They sent me a fix - that didn't fix it. It pushed the bent piece up but not enough to close it. So I asked if it was ok like that and they replaced the seat (which was a hassle because they ended up sending me a different model from the one I had and that had to be all sorted out).

Sent the old seat and the wrong replacement back. Got a new seat.

Just noticed the other day that the clip is bent again!! DS is rear facing so we're not even using the tether clip. It was clipped to the back of the seat as it is supposed to be when not in use. I noticed it was dangling instead of clipped and checked. Sure enough it's bent.

DS is almost 27 months and approx 28lbs. So he'll be rear facing for a while still. I'd like to keep him rear facing until 3 so unless he has a massive growth spurt in the next 9 months we have until next January at least.

DH said to just leave it until we need to turn him and then contact the company at that point.

What do you think? Contact them now? Or later?

Now I say so that all the issues are noted together.

It's not really "all together" at this point anyway. This all happened in may of last year.

This is the thread I had posted about it then.

I would do it so it's done while the seat is still in warranty.

If you wait they may not be helpful since it will be past the warranty period.

Call them now. If for some reason they won't do anything, take a pair of needlenose pliars and bend it back out. I did that on my (way out of warranty) TF and it's fine.

Re: It happened again!! TrueFit tether clip

Thanks.

I don't know what the warranty is on the seat. We might already be passed it. Does it start over with a replacement seat? I doubt it huh?

Weird! That piece doesn't really do much. It should be tight on the u-shaped part. So, as long as it is out of the way, you are good to go.

Interesting. A tech just pointed out to me that one of my True Fits has this issue. I probably wouldn't have noticed for a few months yet, when DS turns FF.

Re: It happened again!! TrueFit tether clip

Warranty is one year. It should start over with a replacement seat.

That part helps hold the tether hook on. Under crash forces, the tether can at times become slack, and you don't want the tether to unhook and then go flying around the vehicle.
