I rented a Medela from the hospital for a couple of months when DS was born, but I always found myself going back to my little Isis. I was oddly able to express more milk faster with the Isis then I could with the Medela.

Im going to second the Avent Isis - I never liked electric pumps though - the hand pumps allowed me to pump more milk since I was in control. Although I never really had to pump more than once a week or less. HTH

Re: What bp is the best and affordable?

I've been borrowing a Pump In Style from a friend but am going to get my own b/c it works so well, just going to get one from craigslist. The advanced ones are $300 but you can find them on there for a fraction of that and I have friends who have bought them on ebay too.

Re: What bp is the best and affordable?

I used the Isis with my first four and really liked it. I was able to pump a lot while I was nursing ds, and regularly got more than 10 ounces at a time. I got the medela harmony for free (at least I never saw a bill for it) when youngest dd was in the hospital and I needed to pump for her there so I could leave for an hour or two. It's okay, but I really prefer the Isis. The harmony is a bit cheaper though. I tried pumping with both at the same time once because I was in a rush, and had a hard time keeping suction on the side I was using the harmony because it was more finicky than the Isis.

Re: What bp is the best and affordable?

medela PIS or Ameda ... I have used botha like the medela better.. I use a PIS right now.. the only Ameda I used was the NICU rental one - I used that for 4 months and then switched to a medela lactina then a PIS... I LOVE my PIS !
the avent is ok for once or twie a day pumpings but full time pumpings or long term the hospital grade double pumping electric type is the way to go!
I have pumping for 18 months and counting!

I like the Avent Isis for occasional pumping.
There's a new single electric pump called the Medela Swing that looks super, super nice. It's $105 new on ebay. I really don't need a pump, but I am so tempted to get one of these anyways.

I have an Avent Isis and I love it although I will say I had quite the learning curve but Iwas determined to use it!

I also have an Ameda Purely Yours but I've never used it so I cannot compare.

I wanted to give you this link because a lot depends on how much she is going to use it. I had problems with the Avent Isis because I used it more than it was meant for but I started using the Medela double select and it worked great for what I needed it for.
