I prefer 10 per size. Some days my babies would go through 3 or 4 due to spit ups and such, and sometimes they wear the same one 3 days straight because everything stayed clean. So 10 is just right for washing once a week.

I also use 10 short sleeved onesies for babies who will be under 6 months old during cold weather, to wear under the sleepers. They just don't move around enough yet to stay warm when they are that little, and the house always has a chill to it in wintertime.

Besides that, I have 4 big swaddle blankets, 2 crib sheets, 4 burp cloths, and 30-36 diapers.

It really does depend on the season and if summer if you have central air/use a lot of air conditioning. We didn't so for a June baby we really just needed a bunch of onesies (a dozen or less), a couple pairs soft pants, a few socks and knit caps, three swaddling sleepers, and a soft sun hat. I wore him in the wrap most of the time so in the hot humid summer he was often just wearing a prefold and a cover (and his sun hat!). Then a few light cotton swaddle blankets for multipurpose use. Then For 3-6 months I added in some soft cotton knit rompers and footed pjs.
