Which Ina May book?
I want to read some inspiring birth stories! I know a lot about natural birth already (I've read a LOT although none of Ina May's books), but I want to learn to look forward to my birth, so I'm wondering which one of Ina May Gaskin's books I should get for that. Guide to Natural Childbirth? Spiritual Midwifery? Birthing from Within? Another one? I can only afford one of those books with my birthday money, so I thought I'd ask you all which one is the best one for me.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Re: Which Ina May book?
I read th guide and spiritual midwifery. I thought the guide had more but maybe because in that one all the stories are in one section so it seemed like a lot. I enjoyed both books.

Re: Which Ina May book?
I finally got Birth Matters from the library and am liking it so far. it doesn't have too many birth stories but has a lot of history about how birth came to be in the hospital with OBs instead of at home with midwives among other things about how primitive people have easy births. And after reading a ton of it yesterday I actually had a dream that I was in labor at home and it was super easy and my midwife's assistant didn't believe I was in labor. So it's definitely inspiring! I have 2 or 3 of her other books on reserve at the library. Can you do that so you don't have to buy them? It was my first time using the reserve system and was very convenient, maybe you have a good library system too?

Re: Which Ina May book?
I love to imagine that I just chill in our jacuzzi tub for most of labor then finally go in to get checked and am 7-8 cm. My friend likes to think if you believe it, it can be done. Funny things is that one of the natural childbirth books I looked at said that if you get in the tub too soon, it can stop your labor or slow it down. That would suck if that's true.

I haven't read any of those but I'm waiting on my copy of her childbirth book and figure I can sell it and maybe fund getting birthing from within afterwards.

Re: Which Ina May book?
I ended up with Spiritual Midwifery, and I've been so pleased with it! It does have a lot of hippie-type language, which is kind of annoying, but other than that there are a lot of positive birth stories of a variety of types of birth and some good information. I'd recommend it!

Re: Which Ina May book?
I am borrowing the Guide to Natural Childbirth from my mw and that book has LOADS of awesome birth stories in the whole first half of the book. The second half of the book is great too! You should get that one. =}
