Re: What did you do to prepare for tandem nursing?

For me the biggest thing was preparing the other nursling. This time I don't have to prepare my oldest DD since she has already tandem nursed and knows the deal, but DD2 is 20 months and while she's obviously tandem nursing too, she's NOT thrilled with it. So we try to talk a lot about the baby having milk when s/he comes, and how she can help teach the baby how to have milk, and how they'll share, etc.

FWIW- my DD1 was 2.5 when DD2 was born and did VERY well with it. I really think tandem nursing is a wonderful way to ease the transition for the older sibling. Much easier than I can imagine it being if were weren't CLW and chose to wean to avoid tandeming.

A lot of people highly recommend "Adventures in Tandem Nursing". I didn't find it to be all that wonderful, though there was some interesting information in there. Might be worth reading.

Re: What did you do to prepare for tandem nursing?

I agree about preparing the older nursling for sharing. I talked to her about how she can eat lots of foods, and drink lots of drinks, including mommy's milk, but that the baby would ONLY be able to have mommy's milk. We also practiced sharing the milk with her dolls, so I'd be nursing her and put the doll on the other side.
