I need help ASAP

I am at the hospital right now in the surgery waiting room. Mom's double mastectomy started 2 hours ago. It has been 8 hours since I last nursed, and I don't have my son with me. It will be at least another 7 before I am home with him.

I bought a pump here since I forgot mine, but I've only been able to pump 1/2 ounce even with the lactation consultant's help. I'm starting to really feel it now and am not sure what to do.

I got most of it out hand expressing, not even with the pump.

I'm not sure what to do now though. Any ideas?

Is the lactation consultant there with you? If so, have her find out if the hospital has one of their pumps you can use. I've never had any luck pumping with store bought pumps but was able to with a hospital grade one. mama and prayers for your mom's surgery

They won't let me use it without paying another $30 for new tubing. I already spent $30 on this hand pump

Re: I need help ASAP

I've never been able to get anything out with a hand pump, I'd spend the $30 if at all possible and use the hospital grade.

I'd just go hand express. And do it frequently, if necessary. If you can't get a lot at once, just keep trying.

Can you find ice packs? i know this isn't getting milk out but it could stop it and the pain and I can't imagine it would hurt your milk supply for one day.

Re: I need help ASAP

warm wash cloths will help. My dad had a stroke and I was in the hospital with him for weeks (4 hours from my DD ). I asked for wash clothes.. ran them under hot water and expressed in a bathroom stall. Good luck mama!

ETA: Make sure you relax.. it's much easier to express when you're not a stress ball.. and I know that it's tough to relax when you're worried about a parent.
