Re: "Do you think your milk is still whole milk or has it turned to skim?"

I like the orange julius suggestion

Don't bring a sample, doctors used to hold milk samples up and tell mothers whether or not they had good enogh milk to bf.

I once had a doc tell me that my milk was homogenized because I was two weeks post partum.

I would find someone new who isn't a bf idiot.

I found my current ped by asking the lactation consultant for a recommendation on who she felt was a breastfeeding-friendly ped.

I think you ought to switch pediatricians. Find someone who supports your way of parenting.

My ped used the skim milk analogy on me, but I saw nothing wrong with it. I was dieting, and it changed my milk, making it less fatty, hence skim milk. It made sense to me. DD had slowed growing. When I stopped dieting, she returned to her normal rate. There's something to what he said. But it depends on his tone.

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions and reassurance. I appreciate it! We are starting to look for a new physician.

Call your local midwifery groups, explain to them your situation and ask what peds their mommas usually see. They will have great recommendations.
One caveat - you may have to drive a little further to see a ped that you like. I think it is worth it though.
