Re: Labor questions :)

I start counting when I can no longer sleep/ or do regular daily functions through contractions. DS1 was 28.5 hours, DS2 was 8 hours, DS3 was 2hrs 17 min. My water usually breaks with the contraction right before baby is born.

Re: Labor questions :)

I usually break it down and say x hours of early labor, x hours of active labor, x hours of pushing. I had a VERY long labor with DD2 and I don't think it makes me a hero or anything. I had her at home, but I begged my midwife and DH to let me go to the hospital on several occasions during it. LOL! I remember grabbing DH by his collar and getting like 1 inch from his face yelling WHY IS NO ONE %$#%&*ing LISTENING TO ME!

Re: Labor questions :)

Ok, if I counted when I started having contractions, it would have been 1/2 my pregnancy! LOL!

I consider "labor" to be when contractions are becomming stronger, regular, and you just "know" it's labor. I considered each of my labors 7-12 hours (depending on which child it was). But, everyone is different. I always wondered what true "labor hours" was considered when the OB or mw asks. I may just have to ask her the next time I see her. But I like my analogy about strong regular contracions counted as labor. I'd hate to say I had longer labor, you know? Our body in many cases prepares for labor days in advanced with mild contractions that we can get through.

I agree! I had mild contractions here and there for weeks before DS was born! So irritating.

Same here. I start having BH contractions at around 15 weeks usually. My BH don't hurt at all though, so I can usually tell when early labor really start because my contractions become painful. In fact, with DD2 my contractions in early labor felt exactly the same as during transition, they were just farther apart!

Re: Labor questions :)

With my first, I started counting when the contractions started to hurt worse than just cramping. That was 25 hours before he was born. My second, I woke up to painful contractions, so I started counting then. That lasted 10 1/2 hours.
