Re: Was Cloth Diapering the right choice?

I'll chime in since I'm CDing my 7th baby...
Mother-ease Airflows are the most durable covers for me. They last through 2-3 kids before the PUL starts cracking, and I probably have 6-10 covers in each size. I use Dappis and Assunta covers for newborns, and they have held up nicely through about 5 babies now (I loan them to friends since they are only worn for about 2 months).
Birdseye and muslin flats last longer than any other diapers. I have Diaper Rite, Little Lion, Osocozy, and Ikea--most were bought between 2010-2015. Prefolds probably would too, but I don't like them much compared to flats and fitteds, so I usually turn them into fitteds. ME Sandys last forever, too.

Re: Was Cloth Diapering the right choice?

ME Sandys can thin, I don't know how long it takes but they def become less absorbent over time.

Covers with Snaps tend to last longer than aplix. Wool would likely last longer than PUL. Then absorbent bits without elastic or attached to PUL will last longer than if they do.

I still have hemp and cotton inserts/doublers I bought 8.5 years ago (only 2 kids). The outer layer eventually got so holey I cut it away but that's only removing 2 thin layers or fabric, so less absorbent but not by leaps and bounds.

For my second I had to rebuy most of my PUL covers/pockets but all the flats, prefolds, inserts/doublers were all reused. Course LO2 ended up mostly using wool anyway.
