4 car seats, 2 RF and 2FF in a van...

Just thinking ahead if we decide to have another baby. If we do kids will be 9, 7, 2 and newborn (approximately). 9 year old will be in a booster (he's 7 now and 61.4lbs so I need to put him in a booster soon), 7 year old is 5 now and only 36.4lbs so will probably still be harnessed.

Here's what I have for seats now and I have to double check but Im pretty sure none will expire. The first to expirer will be the frontier: I have 1 frontier, 3 radians and a snugride 30. I have to buy a HBB soon.

What I'm wondering is how do you arrange them in the van? We have a dodge great caravan. The "easiest" is putting the 2 RF seats in the middle row, but how do the big kids get in? Crawl under the seats? The oldest will be in school all day, so what happens if I ever have 2 passengers in the van? Almost impossible to get back there with 2 RF seats...

Just wondering what everyone else does.

Re: 4 car seats, 2 RF and 2FF in a van...

We have a 7 year old, 4.5 year old, 1.5 year old, and a new one due any day now. I decided to put the 7 year old and toddler in the back. 7 year old is in a booster and toddler is RF. Theoretically some day the 7 year old will be able to help buckle the toddler in... not happening yet, but it isn't a big deal to buckle her in through the back hatch. 4.5 year old is FF in a captain's chair and the infant seat is in the other captain's chair. I think I like this better than having 2 RF seats in the captain's chairs so that when the "big" kids get in/out, they don't have to crawl under the RF seats.

Do you climb into the "trunk" to buckle the toddler in? In our van Id have to climb right in and that wont work if we have anything at all in there..

I agree to put one RF in the back so you can climb in if you want. Sometimes you have to take stuff out of the back, put buckle the kid, the put the stuff back. Or you could try for a 3 across in the back and take out a captains chair. No idea how 3 across friendly the 3rd row is though. Honestly I wouldn't really worry about it until there is something to worry about.

Re: 4 car seats, 2 RF and 2FF in a van...

I have a Chrysler Town & Country and 4 kids

DD1 is 9 and in a HBB in the back row.
DD2 is 7.5 and is in a 5pth in the back row.
DD3 is 3.5 and is FF {just recently turned around} in a captain's chair
DS1 is 2 and is RF in a captain's chair.

IF we ever added #5, I am not sure what we would do.....lol
I don't think I can fit 3 across the back row.

When both littles were RF, the girls squeezed in between the set of the car & the side wall of the car or climbed under the seats.
