How do you do it?!

I am so jealous of all the EC success stories! Weve been trying for 2 months and nothing has ever happened on the potty. He loves it and knows its his and will sit on it and giggle but no business happening! Today I was taking a nap with him and I heard him pass gas and I sprung up and thought "This is my chance! I finally caught him!" Scooped him up and ran off to the potty....NOTHING. RAWWWR!

I admire all you mommas and daddys with EC perseverance!

I get the most "catches" right when my daughter wakes up. It is a good time to begin with and get them accustomed to the cues you use.

I tried that for a while but he already has a wet diaper by the time he is ready to wake up so he never has to use the bathroom after naps. He almost always poops during his first nap of the day (every other day) so its really hard to catch poops. Id rather him take a good nap then worry about catching poop in the potty.

One day he sat on the potty FOREVER, had to be at least 20 minutes and nothing happened...the second I laid him down to put a diaper on him after giving up he peed all over. Yay... lol

I just dont have the perseverance

Thinking about TTC and that makes me want to try a little harder at EC so there is hopefully less laundry if we get blessed with another tush to diaper. I just dont know how you all do it.

Re: How do you do it?!

K - Did you ever get into this? We're just starting with DS (12 mos) but I really don't know what I'm doing, and diapers just seem easier we did diaperless for like half of this week, and Tuesday went well, but yesterday he pooped on my floor THREE TIMES. Remember how I said he only poops once a day??? So...I really want to do it, but I really don't want to scrub poo out of my carpets for months and months. If I had confidence that it would only take weeks to catch poos instead of months, I'd be more game, but I'm just not sure. Everybody on here started so much earlier and catches all poos!

I've read success stories like this, but have never been able to actually do it. Life just gets in the way! Don't worry, "everyone" else isn't having complete success while you are the only one struggling! (Most of us are struggling/figuring it out as we go. The kids who start EC and never poop outside the potty again are the very rare exception!)

One thought - it might be good to start a little slower with the diaper-free time. Like an hour or so at a time at first instead of all day. And do your diaper-free time in the kitchen or backyard, somewhere with no carpet. Because there WILL be misses at first. And scrubbing poo out of the carpet is nasty. Are you having any luck catching those morning poos?

I caught one poo the first day. Since then, none (so I've missed like 5 poos, but 2 of them were in diapers, so no biggie). I've caught LOTS of pee. I've missed a couple of pees too, but I've really caught most pee for the last 4 days. However, it isn't because I've picked up on any signs. I feel like he just happens to be holding it until I sit him on the potty, which has been fairly frequently. He pees almost every time I give him a chance and today I haven't had to clean the floor ever 👍👍👍 (knock on wood).

But that's the thing - I wasn't really trying to do full-time EC or anything, just trying to catch poos. But now that it seems like he likes peeing on the potty, I feel bad not encouraging it, even though all I really want are those darn poos, which I seem to miss every time!
