Re: How do you shower with a toddler not showering with you?

I shower at night but I always have so that's normal for me. Just a couple months ago I finally got DD to shower with me. It took for.ever! The way we finally figured it out is she gets her cups and sits at the far end of the shower where the water doesn't really hit her. Then I fill her cups for her and she plays a little, she slowly worked her way into the stream the more times she showered with me. I would pick her up and hold her in the water the first few times but she was terrified I would drop her. After about 10 times she finally will get in the water and let me wash her up. It's fabulous!!! Just keep trying.

I shower either at nap time or after the LO's are in bed. It is what works for us as I wouldn't be comfortable leaving them totally unsupervised while I shower and I want to enjoy that little bit of 'me' time, not have to rush through it.

I shower while DS has breakfast or mid morning snack. I wheel his highchair into the bathroom and give him some bread or cereal or fruit and then shower while he munches away. Our shower curtain is clear so I can see him at all times and can watch out for choking (which has never happened).

I try to do it before DD wakes up (which is roughly 7:30-8 most days). Even if she's awake, she's normally content to stay in her room until I get to her. If I have to wait until later, I'll let PBS be the babysitter for a while. She's usually glued to the TV when a kiddie show is on and she doesn't wander off. Even as a young toddler, she was this way.

This is probably what I need to do (but I have a boy and only so long I want him showering with me). That's a good idea to put toys in there first as he loves his bath toys and keep trying. Thank you.

Re: How do you shower with a toddler not showering with you?

I have a 13 mo old, and we don't use PNPs or cribs, so if I can't shower before he gets up in the morning/when the teens can watch him/before DH goes to work, I pop him in the shower with me or don't shower

A) We let DD do what she wants. I've always trusted her to just play or not get into trouble.
B) Lock the kiddo in the bathroom with you with some toys.
C) Put the kiddo in the shower with you with toys and let him play.
D) If I need to multi task I put DD in her high chair in the bathroom doorway with her breakfast. She can't move/she gets to eat.

Re: How do you shower with a toddler not showering with you?

We have a handheld shower sprayer. If I have to shower when no one else is available to keep an eye on DS, we sit down in the bathtub, plug the drain, and use the hand-held shower. DS doesn't like the regular shower - it sprays in his face if he's on the tub floor, he's too slippery for me to hold, and I wouldn't be able to shampoo while holding him, anyway.

Fortunately, I prefer showering at night. If DH doesn't happen to be home, I just put on the baby monitor in case baby wakes up and shower fast.

Re: How do you shower with a toddler not showering with you?

I pretty much just gave up on the idea of showering every day
With two now... I can't really shower unless DH is here to watch them. Fortunately for me (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) the kids usually get up pretty early and then one of us showers before DH goes to work. We trade off days, each of us gets a shower every other day. It works.

Pretty much this. My 2 older girls are fabulous and I have no worries with them. My son eats while I shower in the morning in the bathroom.
