We've gone every year, and both DD and DFS just sat in my lap at that age. DD2 loved them last night at 3 months old.

Re: Toddler + Fireworks Show = ?

We didn't bring YDD. ODD has hated them every year. This year was better than last year, she was cringing through most of it but ok. Then came the finale... yeah.... way too loud for her apparently. She cried through it and it took awhile to calm down after. We will try again next year and maybe she will be ok with the whole thing.

we took 7, six and under. the 6 year old, 3.5 year old, 13 month old and 7 month old were fine. (13 month old fell asleep 1/2 way through and we were close). the 4.5 year old and 2 year old just said the noise hurt their ears and were fine once we covered them. the 3 year old had a 100% complete meltdown and had to go to the car. she is fearless and for some reason the fireworks terrified her. she is the one i would have though was least likely to react. id go with earmuffs, but have an escape route just in case

We took my 17 month old to fireworks on Friday. We were not very close so the loudness wasn't an issue. I had him on my back in the beco, he wouldn't sit and was ssooo tired that was the only way to keep him calm. He watched the first half but then fell asleep.

I took DS last year with my friend & her son. He was 1 week shy of 1 year & my friends DS was 8 months. Its always a concert first then the fireworks on the army post here, they did great for the concert & were passed out by the time the fireworks started. Hopefully he'll like them tomorrow night. I know he'll love the concert since he loves music but we'll see. He's a week shy of 2 now.

Re: Toddler + Fireworks Show = ?

We go to fireworks all the time (Disneyland has nearly nightly fireworks shows + our local baseball team has them monthly during the summer). My kids LOVE fireworks. DD freaked out at 10 mths b/c they woke her up, but after she got over the startle, she loved it. DS has no problems w/ them, but has been known to fall asleep in the middle.

We try to stay far enough back that the sound isn't too loud and if going to a place w/ a speaker system, we stay far away from the speakers. DD puts her own hands over her ears if/when it gets too loud. I put my hands over DS's ears. They love the "pretty colors".

Ok mamas thanks for emboldening me. I just didn't know if it would be mean to take a 17 month old (I mean, he does startle and cry at the doorbell. But he loves loud motorcycles. Go figure.) But we will all go and I hope he likes it!
