Just starting out with Chickens

Hi, we recently moved from town to out the country and just got some chickens from a friend. But we are not sure what type they are. Anyone have any ideas?

The yellow one in front looks like a Buff Orpington. I can't see the red one very well.

I agree the yellow one is a buff Orpington. They are both very pretty, I love your chickens.

Re: Just starting out with Chickens

Are they young pullets? If so, the brown one might be a Rhode Island Red. It isn't until they molt into their adult feathers that they get the very solid red color. My other guess is one of the red crossbreeds - either production reds or one of the red sex link crosses.

I hope you enjoy your chickens! I love mine. I keep promising to myself that I will downsize the flock, and just about the time I have determined that I WILL do it, then spring comes and hatching!!
