Turning a towel into a hooded towel

My kids like hooded beach/pool towels. My son is getting older and he really needs a full size towel but they don't come with hoods. I'm been thinking about adding a hood to existing towels. Has anyone tried this?

Tips? Thoughts?

Re: Turning a towel into a hooded towel

I dont have any advice but my memaw made me a hooded beach towel and a robe out of upcycled bath towels when I was in middle school and I loved them both so it is definitely doable.

I am totally not a sewing expert but if it were me I would find 2 towels that match/coordinate and just cut the corner off of one and sew it to the corner of the full towel and hem the cut edge.

Re: Turning a towel into a hooded towel

I made hooded baby towels from baby-grade (eg soft) terry fabric, when Joann's still sold it (years ago). Are you looking to use fabric for the base towel, or a store bought towel? I'd be considering that regular store towels tend to be an odd rectangle to put a hood on a corner, but I don't know that much store fabric is going to be wide enough?

Hooded beach towels have like coat hoods or beach robe hoods. The one store bought one he has the hood is the center of the long edge. I'm not sure where id get the hood material, maybe another towel like mentioned.
