Re: How many clothes kids' have v. how many they need

My son has probably 7 or 8 times the amount of clothing he really needs. I think we could get by on a couple pairs of jeans, a pair of khaki's, and a few shirts. I bet he has 8 pairs of khaki's and I don't know how many jeans and other types of pants.

None of it has been bought new, and almost none of it has been bought by me. My mom is a crazy shopper and finds really good bargains and apparently can't pass them up. She's coming down next week for a month and is bringing a wardrobe for our new daughter. She said she was getting it all together and realized that she probably has enough pink baby clothes for about 4 newborns. At least my SIL and my best friend are having little girls, too, so she can share it between us all.

We have way to many clothes here too.
I go overboard and I can't resist a good clearance rack at Gymboree and Baby Gap... not to mention the coupon burning a hole in my pocket!

Re: How many clothes kids' have v. how many they need

I love baby clothes, and am always looking for a great deal, so we end up with lots of clothes. it helps too that I get a clothing voucher every 4 months With taking in newborn foster babies, I know that even newborn size stuff, which hardly gets used by most families, gets a lot more use here. Before I started fostering, I hit loads of yard sales, and built up a mini-wardrobe in sizes up to 2t for both boys and girls. I've weeded out a bunch since then though as I've found what I like to use the most, but we still have more than we "need". It also helps that an old friend owns a Children's Orchard and has given me several gift cards, lol

The biggest part of Alina's wardrobe is a whole bunch of me-dyed shrts to go with our growing woolie stash

Re: How many clothes kids' have v. how many they need

I used to care a lot more about clothes and brands so my kids had way too many clothes. Now it's more reasonable, especially since DD really only likes to wear 3 outfits . No point in buying clothes she refuses to wear. DS is in wool or fleece most of the time so he has few pairs of store bought pants.

DD has too many clothes too. Of course, I also have three sisters-in-law who have no other kids to buy for.

Um I get caught up in clearance racks. So if I can get shirts for $3 I buy a few. My dd's have a closet full of clothes.

Re: How many clothes kids' have v. how many they need

My kids have more than they need, but not by much. Well, the girls, anyway. I can get my 8 yr olds clothes and my 2 yr olds clothes (not counting the cloth diapers, of course) in 5 regular sized drawers. My son has more, but that is mostly because he was given a lot of hand me downs and since we had the room in his dresser, what I decided to keep got put in there. So, he has clothes that will going away in a couple of months and some that unless he all of a sudden gets real rough, he will be wearing in a couple of years.

Re: How many clothes kids' have v. how many they need

My ds probably has 10-12 pairs of pants and maybe 14 shirts. 8 pairs of pajamas (he eats breakfast in them and has not mastered the art of using a napkin yet, so they usually get dirty.) He has over 20 pairs of underwear, easy (from potty training days- he still wears the same size!). I don't think it's excessive though. I don't like finding we've run out of jammies when it's time to get ready for bed. I don't want to be forced to wash clothes if it doesn't fit easily into my day on any particular day. I don't have a laundry schedule- I just do it when I think of it, or it looks like it's piling up.

Now I just heard about my 5 year old cousin (lives in FL so I never see her) who has her own walk in closet with two closet bars going around the perimeter of the closet (top and bottom.) Both bars are packed with dresses going all the way around the closet. That is a sickness if you ask me. Serious shopaholism.
