gussets

I use the adorabubble pattern, but it's the only one that I have used, so it is the only gusset that I have done.....

Anyone like another type of gusset? I have noticed pictures that look totally different from mine. What patterns are these from??

Thanks

Re: gussets

I love the real gussets that are an added piece of fabric, like the Thirsties covers. I didn't find too many diaper patterns that had them, so I just added my own.

My favorite pattern was from Kayla's Cloth Kits until I went to drafting my own. I REALLY hate aplix so I had to find a diaper pattern that had snaps (which is why I started making my own). I have also tried the Chloe Toes, which I also liked since I got to use all my pretty colored FOE. I also used the Diaper Covers Deluxe cover pattern, which I liked.

If you want to add a gusset, you can add them to any 1 layer PUL cover fairly easily. Basically you lay your pattern on a piece of tissue paper or pattern tracing paper. Draw a line from the elastic mark on the top of the diaper to the bottom elastic mark. Then trace the inside curve of the diaper. So you should have a moon shape type piece. You'll need to cut out 2 of these from your PUL for your diaper.

I always use FOE when doing this piece. So now you take your moon shape piece and along the straight side sew on a piece of FOE, you will need to pull tension on the FOE to make it stretch. It will give you a curled moon shape when you are done.

NOW! You sew the curved edge into the diaper. And what you are going to do is take the edge that is more pointed you will place at the top elastic mark, it will be pointing to the back waist line kind of up. Face the piece with the shiney side of the PUL facing down, so the two shiney pieces are facing eachother. Then start to slowly sew the gusset in all the way down the diaper. You'll need to continusouly match the edge of the gusset up with the edge of the diaper. And you just sew the gusset into the leg casing. When you are done will will have a diaper cover that looks like a sitting baby, since the gusset will pull the the diaper up.

a note on these gussets, they work best when you are going to use FOE on the binding, they don't work well with a T&T at all.

I hope all that made sense.....

Little Turtle Knits' Picky Pants
Belladonna Designs Shorts/Pants/Skirt Pattern or Options pattern
Sheepy Pants (I haven't knit this one but I hear it is similar)
Wooly Wonder WonderShorts/Pants (note that the Perfection Pants pattern has the gansey gusset like the adorabubble pattern)

To name a few.
