I saw someone take my recycling WWYD?

This morning while I was waiting foy my DD's school bus I saw a man in a pick up truck driving on my street, he stoped at every house and dumped the cans from the recycling bins into the back and then drove away. Is that legal?
It made me mad, I know there is a place near my house where you can sell them for money so thats probably what he is doing, should I call the recycling programme? the police? or just let it go, I have seen this same person a few times drive slow and look in my box but this is the first time I saw what he was actually doing.

I'd contact the police and ask if it's legal. And if it's not, next time take down his plate #

I personally wouldn't care. They are still getting recycled...that's my whole point in recycling. Although it would've been nice if he asked first...but eh..no biggie to me.

Now...if he makes a mess and doesn't clean it then that would be a different story

I would double check but I know once you put your trash at the curb it is fair game. It wouldn't bother me, there is nothing personal in my recycling, if there is important paper work you don't want someone to see, like bills or something, just shred them first. I would say if he needs them that bad for the money let him have them.

I'm thinking he must need the moneyif he's doing that and I'd let him do it. There was a woman who came to our school every day to collect cans. The custodians used to leave large trash bags out for her.

I would assume he's doing it because he needs the money. At least he's trying to do *something* kwim?

WE have people do it every week. I purposly leave a few cans or bottles in there (in MI you can return a can/bottle for $.10) because I figure if they are in need enough to be digging through trash and recycle bins then I want to help out a little. If it's still getting recycled then what's the harm really?

If they are getting the job done, then I wouldn't worry about it! We intentionally put metal items on the side of the rd so that community members can take it to the recycling plant and get the money. We feel like we are helping the community out. We live in a very low income community.
So, if If I were you I would feel good about myself b/c I had probably helped someone out by letting them take the recycling!

We usually have people who go down the whole block, taking all the cans. I don't care at all, as long as they're getting recycled.

I know where I can take them to get cash for them myself, but I'm just not that motivated! LOL
