Mainstream detergent that isn't heavily scented

While I've never had any issues with CD detergent I've decided that I'm going to give mainstream detergents a try with LO.

I can't handle strong perfume smells and I know almost nothing about most commercial detergents because I don't normally buy them. I generally just use the Costco detergent or make my own for our laundry. Neither of which are good for diapers from what I read.

So.... What kind of detergents have you had success with (we live in Texas with hard water) that doesn't leave your diapers smelling like a perfume factory. I will be washing cotton flats and pockets.

Original Tide is pretty strong straight out of the box, but it's not bad once the wash is done. You still smell it, but it's not overpowering, IMO.

Re: Mainstream detergent that isn't heavily scented

I have been using unscented detergent for years.
Recently I tried Tide Original and I absolutely hated the smell, both out of the box and after washing. (The PUL especially would hold the fragrance.)
It took about a week but eventually I got used to the smell. I actually kind of like it, at least on the covers and wet bags.
But it definitely was a big contrast and for a while I wanted to get rid of it altogether.

My parents have the hardest water I've ever known and my mom has had the best luck with Seventh Generation liquid detergent. The scent is present but mild IMO (not like Tide!). I've used her washer to wash prefolds and the detergent worked fine, but I haven't washed any other diapers at her house.

I used the Costco free and clear detergent with no issues on our diapers. We also have very hard water.

Are you looking for HE or regular? The options are different for them.
I do a good prewash- warm water, 50 min run time, good amount of Tide, a tiny splash of bleach, high spin speed.
Then my second wash I use a ECOS because I like the mild scent and it washes the Tide scent out. I still do a full-length wash on hot for the second, but they are mostly clean after the first one anyway so I am able to get by with the non-mainstream detergent in it.
