I don't have experience with that brand, but my experience with newborn diapers in general is that a long skinny baby like mine can fit in them well past the weight range given, while a short chubby baby, who may weigh the same amount, will outgrow them much quicker.

As they get bigger, with newborn diapers it tends to be an absorbency issue more than a fit issue. Newborns are drinking all the time and tend to pee a lot relative to their size. I think Charlie Banana is a pocket diaper with a microfiber insert? Your friend would probably get more use out of them if she had something to use as a doubler, or better inserts available to her.

PP is correct, the insert seems wimpy versus the size. I got some on clearance as well and a few different things fit in there: grobaby boosters, AMP bamboo inserts (super absorbent!), probably a flip daytime organic. An 8" or 9" Cotton washcloth will ~trifold perfectly. I'm going to get some Grovia size 1 prefolds, but I think they'll be too long.

Thanks for the info. She has my old medium dipes and a bunch of mf and hemp/cotton doublers, so I think she should be set. I guess we'll hope that these last awhile for her. She has some newborn simplex dipes and they looked like they'd be kinda big at first.

Re: what weight to charlie banana xs REALLY fit up to?

Here's feedback I got from another mama:
"They were actually the first diapers he wore because of the great fit we had with them. The legs get really small for those NB chicken legs. We stopped using them around 2 months old or so, he was approx 11 lbs then. He probably could've kept wearing them, but I didn't like stuffing the tiny pocket, and that's the only negative thing I could say about the xs. I was "on the fence" about buying these, but received them as a baby shower gift and was happy to have had them! I'd give them a 4/5, 4 because of the small pocket."

OP, were they $18 or $10 for the pack you got?

$25! i've seen that people have gotten them cheaper. i'm debating returning them if they won't be much use to her.

Wow! Mine were on clearance for $18 for the three-pack at Target, and I've heard of some stores marking them down to $10.
