Has anyone done a "messy" party?

I am contemplating doing a "messy" party for ds's 2nd bd.

We have a huge sandbox that dh just built so that could be one activity

I was also thinking mabey an art area

I could do a tub of that cornstarch goo.

A table w/ shaving cream (might sting eyes ) or whipped cream to play in........

I don't know it would be so much fun but it might be too much hassle. It will be in October so if the weather was bad I would have to have a plan B.

I was thinking this or a baseball party. (but now that sounds so boring )

I think that sounds awesome!

As long as you have a plan B (and some help!) go for it!

Re: Has anyone done a "messy" party?

My playgroup did one to celebrate the end of summer last year and it was a big hit. This has to be done outside for sure and all the kids must wear clothing that can be destroyed. We have kiddy pools set up full of messy stuff that kids would normally never get to have fun with. Cooked spaghetti noodles dyed lots of pretty colors, Jello, and Flour each in there own kiddy pool give the kids lots of textures to explore. Edible figure paints made from vanilla pudding dyed with food coloring and home made playdough add more fun. We usually do a messy potluck too and you cant forget the famous dirtcake for dessert. We hose the kids off at the end and use the foam soaps for some clean messy fun.

ETA: I dont know if I would do this for a birthday party unless I had a lot of help from family. Clean up is a bit extensive and the cost of materials can get a bit high. But it may be worth it as long as you know what you are getting into.
