"Last Night of Milk" Celebration :)
Although my 4-year-old attempted to convince me many a night he would nurse until he was 10, we talked and agreed we would have our last night be after Christmas sometime, but we would have a celebration, just me and him
He was only nursing at nighttime before bed (and not every night, at that), certainly didn't need it, but it was still comforting to him. His father and I separated about a year ago, so although I've been ready to quit for awhile, I wanted to be sensitive to his needs and needing extra comfort during the hard times we've had in the transition. So, last night was our last nursing night and today Oliver got to choose whatever he wanted to do. So, we took the light rail (he loves trains and we've ridden it only a couple times because in our city it's not really extensive enough to be useful for much) to the Mall of America, where we had lunch (we tried our first Crepe Suzette!), bought candy (of course!), shopped a bit (he got a Batman sweatshirt!), and went to Underwater World (a sea life exibit there) where we got to see all sorts of cools things. Then, highlight of course, train ride back. It was a blast, such a nice way to celebrate our 4 years of this wonderful bonding time we've had. Tonight he was sad to not get any milk, but we talked again about how fun the day was, and he went to sleep.Although I have to admit, I am very sad most especially because I'm not sure that I will ever have more children (2 years of secondary infertility treatments, now divorce, and I'm over 30)... but even though he'd have probably nursed forever, I knew it was time for us to be done. He's so big and mature and smart, just a little man and is already doing the preschool thing with his backpack every day. Just too cute. But anyway, I remnisce ![]() Thought I'd share this lovely milestone with you all

Aw, that sounds like such a wonderful way to end your nursing relationship. I can only hope it'll be this way with my kids. DS is 3 yo and I'm also nursing his almost 1 yo sister, so I am ready for this to be the last year of nursing for him, even though I know it'll be bitter-sweet when the time comes. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story!

Awww! I love this idea! I might have to do that with my 2.5 year old when I am ready to be done. :-)

That was such a great idea! I built my son up about a month before his 3rd birthday so he accept at age 3 there would be no more nursing. We had an extra long cuddle/ nursing session the night before and the next day we celebrates his birthday and the fact that he was a big boy and did not to nurse any longer. I took it harder than him
