Re: How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??

3.3k if paid in full by 33 weeks. All appointments at my house. Birth attendant cost not covered in that fee -- probably an extra 500-700.

My insurance will cover 70% of the main fee and probably 50% of the attendant.

Unfortunately, insurance won't cover anything homebirth in Nebraska, midwife assisted deliveries are not legal...but I know they do happen "underground"
That's the way it is here in North Carolina too. My midwife charges $1800. That includes all prenatal and postpartum visits (all done in my home.) I also had to buy a birth kit that was about $100.

So, I'm not the only one that can have a homebirth as long as a CNM, that doesn't do homebirths, attends. LOL I thought that was funny. We're still submitting the bill to the insurance company to see what they'll pay for.

Definitely depends on where you are. Had my first in Corpus Christi, TX and paid around 1800. Second born in Alaska and paid between 3000 and 4000. Now we are in Oklahoma and have paid current midwives about 2400.

Will agree with the other mama who said it was worth every penny. We are military and could have a hospital birth completely paid for--NO THANKS!!

My "underground" MW is costing us $1500 for all prenatals, delivery, and postpartum care. It actually only costs us $1400 because we paid in full in advance.

We still have..

vitamin cost
birth kit cost
pool cost
Rhogram cost if I decide to get it this time.

I would have delivered for free with insurance at the hossy but no VBACS around here and I really want to give natural birth once.

2000 but I am giving birth in a birth center..this covers everything from prenatal to postpartum. Also our insurance DOES cover as out of network! So it's way cheaper than the in network hospital coverage!

Re: How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??

I'm in southern MN and our midwife is $3,000. Or 2,500 if you drive to her house for the first half of the appts. That's for prenatal, birth (with an additional birth attendant/doula), and 7 post partum (sp?) checkups. There are a few things we're required to purchase, but we don't have the list yet. Insurance won't cover it, but she says to submit the forms anyway because sometimes they do.

Mine is $2,000 here in Colorado. I priced them out and it was anywhere between $2-3,000. This includes a birthing tub and ALL pre and post exams. My insurance covers it though. THANK GOODNESS!

2500 for mine but my lovely Mama is paying for it for me as she knows we can't afford it right now, but she also knows how important it is to me. We still need to buy the birth kit which I believe is about 60.00 plus birthtub rental if we go that route.

2000-2500... I can't remember exactly and the last part of it we paid in $100 monthly payments.
