2 yo not wanting to nap >>>>> HELP :) Update 4-10

Update: My son still asks everyday to nurse. Yesterday while trying to get him to nap he asked for it and my gut said give it to him. He fell asleep in less than 5 min. and slept 2 hours. He woke up happy and not screaming. He also slept through the night again. I feel at nap time only I will nurse him. I will explain this to him and hopefully this works.

We bought a house about a month ago and I 100% weaned my son 3 weeks ago. Nursing him was my sure fire way to get him to sleep. In the past 3 weeks he has only taken 3 naps. I have tried everything, a movie, reading, a tv show. Nothing get him sleepy enough to nap. I even tire him out big time in the morning. He used to nap from 1-3 or 4. Now by 6 he is exhausted and ready to sleep. If he goes to bed that early he will be up by 9 and then not back to sleep till midnight. I don't know what to do. I just feel 2 is too young to be dropping a nap.

I even leave him in his room and tell him to rest. He just stays in there for over an hour reading or talking to himself, never falls asleep.

Help!

Re: 2 yo not wanting to nap >>>>> HELP :)

We have that problem with my DD sometimes. We played around with nap time and it turns out that she naps best when we put her down at about 3pm rather than just after lunch. It means that she also then goes down for the night late (between 8:30-9p) but I don't really mind that. What we started doing was telling her that it is quiet time. We tuck her into bed and then leave the room. We usually hear her moving around for a while but, on most days, she eventually falls asleep. There are some days that she just plays quietly in her room but I would say that 99% of the time she does actually take a nap.

I would just keep trying what you are doing and telling him that it is nap time. Hopefully it is just a phase and he will start napping again soon.

My dd quit taking naps when she was 2 1/2ish. You can't force him to nap, so I'd stick with the quiet time in his room. It may not be sleep, but at least it gives him a chance to relax for a little bit.

DS1 stopped napping at that age. It was too bad, since I was 7 months pregnant. You could try putting him down at 2 or 3 for quiet time and he may nap sometimes, if he's really tired.
