Re: Baby on a boat? How old?

As long as the flotation device is suitable for baby's age and weight it should be fine. We had DD out salmon fishing last summer, I think she was 8 months and she was fine. She actually slept most of the time.

As long as you are practicing safe boating I see no problem with it

Re: Baby on a boat? How old?

I took DS out on a boat starting at 8 months. (born in May, boat in January). I didn't mind it, but I made him wear his life vest at all times. My deal with DH was no vest, no boat.

that was my deal...the next day I got home from work and he had went to Costco. We now have all the baby beach/boat stuff we could ever ask for.

I could see why that would make you nervous. I am personally very nervous around the water period especially with my kids. We will not be taking them on any sort of boat any time soon. My two year old is the type to jump overboard on purpose.

In our family, we take our kids on the boat at young ages. Oldest dd was 4 months old when we took her. Our kids all have to wear a life-jacket when they are in the boat and it is moving. I guess it's jsut because I grew up on the water in the summer, but as long as you take precautions to stay safe, I see no reason why not to take your child on a boat at any age.

I took Nikolas when he was 15 months. He was wearing a life jacket and sitting in my lap. He fell asleep about 2.5 seconds after we pulled away from shore. I was a nervous wreck until we got out there.

Re: Baby on a boat? How old?

For me it depends on the boat.
We have a cabin cruiser and have taken them out when they were 6 -8 weeks and kept them in the cabin, in a car seat when the boat was moving, they mostly slept from the rocking of the boat.
In the open Jet boat Ds was 3 when we took him, I had to hold him down or he'd have flown out I didn't allow that again.

Re: Baby on a boat? How old?

We have used my Uncles boat with our 9 month old. We used a flotation vest that if she was to topple in would actually bring her to a raft like postion with her legs up under her and her head on a pillow. She doesn't love it....but it makes me more comfortable. My Uncle bought it at a true Marine store for his little guy and they boat ALL the time.
