DS broke his wrist--any advice?

DS jumped off his loft bed (about 3 1/2 feet off the floor) and apparently landed wrong as he fractured his wrist and now has to be in a cast for 6 weeks. Unfortionately it's his right wrist. He is predominately right handed, though he does do things with his left.

We were just starting to work on wiping his own bum, buttoning his own shirts and pants, pretty much working on making him completely indepedent in preparation for going to school in the fall. This is going to be a major set-back. Instead of just working on the last bits of independence, I now have to help him pull his pants up, put on his shoes and his jacket, etc.

Anyone deal with a broken arm/wrist? Any tips or advice on getting thru the next 6+ weeks?

Re: DS broke his wrist--any advice?

Well, dh broke his right wrist several months ago in an accident at work. At first, he had a hard time dressing himself, but within just a few days, the swelling and pain had started to subside and he was able to use his hand and fingers even with the cast. He actually had a harder time adjusting when he got the cast off because his arm was so much weaker and he was used to having the extra support.

Good luck...hopefully your little man will be back on the road to independence in no time!
