Re: Completely OVERWHELMED...please help!!!!

I know that this is an old post, but I'm in the same boat. i've read most of the replies and I'm still at a loss. My baby girl is a yr old but she is long and skinny and I want to start cd'ing but the hubs isn't sure. I'm thinking of purchasing pockets? because they seem relatively easy. One concern is how bulky they may be.. any ideas on trimmer pockets? or would covers and fitted work just as well? I'm not sure.

Thanks

Re: Completely OVERWHELMED...please help!!!!

I was able to jump into the cd world with AIO's. I didn't know how miserable and how much extra work I was putting on myself. I still say flats (a dozen is like $25 at gmd or get used) take them fold in half, fold in half again( it would be a small square) then fold in half for a rectangle. (3 moves and done! Stack them for easy use) place in a cover and use. Invest in a diaper sprayer if you can to spray off morning pee and all poop. And a few covers like econobums are good. Washcloths for wipes. A 5 gallon bucket for soiled diapers. I just discovered sandys motherease for nights (2 in rotation to wash) and a disana wool cover, and you can be done. If you need a simple start, econobum kit would be easy since your baby is older. You just fold the insert (I just folded in half instead of 3rds) and it's an easy way to start too.

so you think prefolds or flats and covers? Have you tried pockets?

Re: Completely OVERWHELMED...please help!!!!

I have tried pockets. The only difference is, is you are stuffing your insert into a pocket (extra work) than laying your insert on top of the cover. If your pockets are synthetic, you'll also add more work for yourself in having to strip if build up in detergent or stink. You would also need more pockets, because you'd have to change the whole thing every time, whereas with a cover, you just change the insert throughout the day, unless poop gets on them.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the hybrids are when you can choose a disposable liner, or a rewash-able cotton insert with a reusable cover. I haven't used them though, so another mama is going to have to chime in with their experience.
