Bought some workhorses without soakers?

I bought some GMD newborn workhorses with snaps from a mom here locally. I am due in October so I was just trying to buy a variety for a newborn stash. Last night I pulled out all the used diapers to wash and strip. After washing them I noticed that these workhorses didn't have the extra soaker sewn in. I'm so confused. It doesn't look like they were cut out, they just are not there at all! Was there a time when GMD didn't put the soaker in there? And can I buy the soakers separately and sew them in myself?

I'm pretty sure the older Newborn whs didn't have attached soakers.

Not sure if you could sew them in, but you can certainly lay in any other kind of soaker in a newborn size!

The older newborns did not have soakers and why they only worked for us for a week! I laid in tiny washcloths, but it became drama since the diapers are so small.

If you sewed in baby washcloths, it would prob work great.

Re: Bought some workhorses without soakers?

I see. Thank you for the info! I looked today and saw that GMD makes cheap doubles that are 12 inches long. Maybe I can fold it in half and sew it in across the top so it's like having 2 6 inch doublers?

Yes, GMD made the newborn workhorses without doublers up until about 2 years ago. I found they fit better and were absorbent enough for my babies from birth until 8 or 9 lbs. When they needed more absorbency, I used a doubler outside of the fitted to ensure maximum EBF poop containment .

I used the gmd workhorses without the sewn in doubler on my babe 2 years ago. When she started "out peeing" them I just laid a doubler on the outside of the fitted. I liked having the fitted up against her and on nice and snug to hold in all the newborn poo.

Thanks everyone! I never would have thought about putting the doubler outside the fitted! I will give it a try.
