Re: Is it too early to talk Thanksgiving?

Turkey is in the freezer. That's about all I've done.

How's your progress?

I contacted the godparents about not being there for Thanksgiving and I got the most heartbreaking message back. Now I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing.

Ugh.

What do you mean about doing the right thing?

I texted them (usual form of communication) and I got a really lengthy sad reply. We still plan on seeing them but just not on the day of.

Re: Is it too early to talk Thanksgiving?

I'm cooking for just the four of us again this year. After dinner we will pack everything up and take with us to eat over the weekend. We stay at a hotel near myt husband's work as he works crazy retail hours over the weekend.

Our menu is pretty traditional.

Turkey
mashed potatoes
Gravy
Green bean casserole
Cottage potatoes
Rolls
Pies

Maybe asparagus, haven't decided yet

That's a great idea to stay close to his work.

I picked up a few things for the table (cloth napkins, some bowls, and a platter.) Turkey is starting to be defrosted.

I'm not stressed but I do have to sit down and schedule everything out.

Re: Is it too early to talk Thanksgiving?

Made the cranberry sauce in the Insta pot. I think I'd use less water next time. It has already passed the test since most wanted to taste it as opposed to the can stuff no one touches. I'm tasting tomorrow once it cools and adjusting. It's smells very citrusey.

Made some broth to have on hand.

I'm having kids chop and help with prep tomorrow.

How is your prep going?

Re: Is it too early to talk Thanksgiving?

We're traveling three hours to my in-laws on Thursday morning, so I volunteered to bring rolls, since they could be made in advance and they travel well. Then I got excited and made them all last week. So we currently have seven dozen rolls in our freezer. I feel a little silly prepping that early, but I had time, and now I just have to worry about packing and cleaning.

I made:
2 dozen potato rolls (half white, half wheat)
2 dozen vegan whole wheat rolls (for my nephew who is vegan)
4 dozen white crescent rolls (our favorite, which is why there are now 7 dozen rolls in my freezer instead of 8 )

That sounds delicious. Good idea to prep when you had the time. Not silly at all.

The kids requested the wheat bread recipe you shared so today I'll make that. My friend is coming for Thanksgiving and she loves baking bread so I'm guessing she'll bring some too.

We love plain baked sweet potatoes and planned to make some but wondering if guests will expect a more casserole type too. We don't do anything with marshmallow so wondering if anyone has ideas besides that kind. I could do two different mashed I suppose.

My husband's family makes a sweet potato dish with a pecan crumble-type topping. It's delicious but very sweet. My mom makes something with sweet potatoes and apples (and maybe pineapple?). I don't have the recipes for either but I bet you could google it and find something you liked. My favorite is plain baked sweet potatoes with butter, a little salt and pepper. Yum.

Also--I'm so glad your family likes the bread!
