Gift ideas for NICU parents
A friend has a premie in the NICU and may not be coming home for another month! What gift suggestions do you all have to give her to let her know I'm thinking of her? Some ideas I've come up with:
- snacks, chocolates, trailmix, fruit - hand lotion - crossword puzzles, magazines, etc. - nail polish ![]() - gas cards - breastmilk bags |

Re: Gift ideas for NICU parents
A good friend of mine had 24 weekers twin. I sent a blanket for each parent (it's usually cold in NICU), crossword puzzles, pens, markers, paper, markers, colors, color books, and tape. The mama would color and draw things and then tape it to the incubator.
I also sent a gift certificate to their favorite place to eat and movie tickets. Every year on the twins' birthday, I send the boys' a gift and the parents a gift certificate to eat and movie tickets... Sometimes parents forget they need together time. |

Re: Gift ideas for NICU parents
I think anything you do will be appreciated, very thoughtful of you. We were there for a long time too and after a couple of weeks people stopped visiting as often or offering to help. Maybe do 1/2 now and 1/2 later just so she knows you still remember her. I was a wreck the whole time DS was in and I couldn't be my normal bubbly self to friends and family but I just didn't have anything else to give at that point. Don't take offense if she's not as warm as you'd expect. Everyone handles it different... I internalized everything.
Also I think my favorite thing that was given was a tote bag. I had to pack a lot of stuff for the day at the hospital and it was really nice to have a new bag. Last edited by 7mom7; 02-28-2013 at 08:31 AM. |

Re: Gift ideas for NICU parents
Anytime people brought us food (especially healthy food), it was a total blessing. So nice to have something healthy to eat for dinner that we didn't have to prepare, and I had a whole countertop of snacks that I could grab before we headed to the hospital each day.
And yes, visitors definitely peter off as the weeks go by, so letting them know that you're still around and care is very much appreciated! |

Gas cards, gift cards to restaurants near the NICU, hand santizer, bottled water, and one of these signs http://www.itsapreemiething.com/stor...stop-sign.html
Also, try to find out if there is a massage therapist in the hospital and, if so, buy her a massage.
