Cow milk alternatives, Help

I am trying to switch my 3 year old from cows milk to another milk because of her eczema. Any suggestions on what she might like? She's a string bean and I want the milk to have an much as in can in the way of "good stuff". I don't care if its sweetened in fact I think it may have to be.

We tried Good Karma unsweetened Flaxmilk and unsweeted vanilla hemp milk. Both has failure. My first choice would be a sweetened hemp milk because of my comparisons, it has the most "good stuff" without any known bad stuff.

Is it worth trying orginal tempt hemp milk? Or is it not really all that sweet? I'd like opinons from someone that has had cows milk recently (my only help in person is a 20years+ vegan and doesn't remember what cows milk tastes like).

Another thought is coconut milk cause maybe she would take to it. But should I get orginal or is unsweetened sweet enough?

Any tips would be much appreciated!

Not sure if it's something you would consider but many people who have issue with regular cow's milk do great with raw cow's milk. It has tons of good stuff. You could try goat, it is supposed to be easier to digest but I think it would be a hard sell for her.

I was just reading about goats milk! Is the flavor that different? The internet says one brand should be sold at our grocery store but I didn't see it there today. I might call and ask.... if the choice we land on doesn't store long it will be a pain for us if we have to goto a different place to get it very frequently :-/ Plus she will likely be the only one drinking it, if not for the price!

You can freeze raw cow's milk.

I've never tried goats milk from the store but the raw stuff I tried does taste different. I would drink it, but it tastes more...earthy? or something. I prefer cow.

ETA plus cow is usually cheaper.

If you can get raw cows milks, try that. If you can't, but can get raw goat's milk, try that. Also, depends on what the issue is. One of my kids drank the lactose-free whole milk when we couldn't get raw (think Lactaid, though there are other brands). The other child drink unsweetened vanilla almond milk.

I will point out, though, that milk is not necessary for health. Not saying don't get some that works for you, but if nutrients/fats/calories are an issue, there are a lot of ways to get all the good stuff.

"Ripple" its pea milk. It comes in 4 flavors, unsweetened, original, vanilla and chocolate. You can research it to see if it's what your looking for in an alternative. In my researching it's supposed to be really good, I like the original.

She is 3 and only wants to eat snacks. She doesn't eat a ton, any extra good stuff we can get from drinking is cool.

I've never heard of pea milk, neat!

Coconut milk is really easy to make and delicious, even unsweetened. I like fresh for milks like that, the carton ones from the store don't taste right to me. I have done it like this before:
coconut milk recipe from Wellness Mama
and it turned out really good. We can get organic unsweetened coconut in the bulk bins at our local grocery store for really cheap, so it ends up being much less expensive to make coconut milk than to buy it.

Good luck! Dairy allergies are no fun.

I've used the same recipe and sweetened with some dates. I've also done her pecan milk sweetened with dates and it is amazing - I love it and so do my kids. The nut milk is more time consuming to make though. The coconut milk has some really good fats in it too for a little one. I haven't fortified it before, but I know you can.

Re: Cow milk alternatives, Help

Unfortunately I now have the problem that she thinks she is not going to like any of these other milks. Before trying the coconut milk today she says "I'm not going to like it" in a singsong voice.

So now I need to figure out how to get passed this. sigh.

To anyone else thinking of trying this... the idea I came up with too late is to just bring home a new yummy thing to drink for everyone, then once we find one she likes say she is switching to it. Sigh
